USGS Confirms 2.0 Quake in Swain County

A small tremor shook western North Carolina around 6:19 a.m. on Friday, as reported by scientists from the U.S. Geological Survey. The quake’s epicenter was pinpointed 10.8 miles west of Bryson City in Swain County. Measuring at 2.0 magnitude on the Richter scale, such seismic activity typically lacks the force to cause significant damage but can be perceptible to both humans and animals.

Earthquakes of this caliber may prompt minor shifts in rocks and soil, yet the likelihood of any structural harm to buildings remains exceedingly low.

This recent quake marks the fourth recorded in the region since February, with all registering at magnitudes of 2.0 or below.
