An investigation is ongoing after the discovery of a deceased woman at a rock quarry in Haywood County last month.
A representative from the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office disclosed that Jessica Byrd’s lifeless body was found at the Harrison Construction rock quarry, situated at the top of Allen’s Creek Road, on September 26th. Authorities initially initiated a search for a missing female, with assistance from a drone provided by the Waynesville Police Department, ultimately leading to her discovery. The sheriff’s office stated that it was immediately evident that Byrd had tragically passed away. Presently, there is no indication of foul play in the circumstances surrounding Byrd’s demise, although an investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
The department also verified that Byrd had no affiliation with the quarry as an employee. The retrieval of her remains was executed by members of the Haywood County and Henderson County Search and Rescue teams, along with support from various other local agencies.
