The Macon County Sheriff’s Office is currently in the midst of investigating a shooting incident that took place earlier today, on 1/5/2024, around 10:00 a.m. Following reports of gunfire, deputies were dispatched to the Mashburn Branch area.
Upon their arrival, law enforcement found a male victim who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Swiftly, the injured individual was taken to a nearby trauma center, and emergency medical services were promptly called to the scene to provide crucial medical aid. The affected area has been secured, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Efforts by the Macon County Sheriff’s Office involve earnestly gathering information and conducting witness interviews to reconstruct the events leading up to the incident. Both the identities of the victims and any potential suspects are being withheld at this stage, pending further investigation.
“We prioritize the safety and well-being of our community and take any violent incident seriously,” stated Sheriff Brent Holbrooks. “Our deputies, working in collaboration with the State Bureau of Investigation, are actively collecting information to ensure a comprehensive investigation into this matter.”
Updates on the progress of the investigation will be provided by the Sheriff’s Office. Presently, one suspect is under detainment, and there is no known immediate threat to the community.
