The Swain County Band Boosters will operate a Dewey’s Bakery fundraising popup shop on Railroad Square in Bryson City for the Polar Express season. The store will be open from Friday November 13 until December 31 and will operate daily with mostly afternoon and evening hours to coincide with Polar Express train times. This Bryson City location is the Dewey’s Bakery holiday store west of Asheville. A portion of proceeds from each sale will go directly back to the Swain County Band Boosters to help raise funds in support of their award winning band program that serves over 100 students.
The program includes concert bands at the middle school and high school, the Marching Maroon Devils, pep band, and various instrumental ensembles. Youth who participate in band learn teamwork, discipline, dedication, and determination. These life skills prepare students as they move into adulthood and careers. Money raised by this fundraising shop will help pay for instrument repair and purchase, uniforms, music, competition entry fees, and other program costs. Swain County Band Boosters ensure every student who wants to play an instrument from middle school to high school is provided a loaner instrument so that expense is not a barrier to participation.
“This is an exciting fundraising opportunity for our band program. We look forward to engaging with the community and providing a made in NC product not available at any local stores. In addition to reaching Polar Express train riders, we hope the popup shop will become a local favorite for holiday treats. I am already a fan of the Moravian Sugar Cakes.” said Jason Dunford, President of the Swain County Band Boosters. “We want to thank Great Smoky Mountain Railroad for providing us the space and electricity to operate this fundraising shop. We could not do this without their support.”
Items available in the store will include Dewey’s Moravian Cookie gift tins, Moravian Sugar Cake, savory Cheese Straws and other seasonal treats perfect for gifting. Moravian Cookie flavors include Ginger Spice, Classic Sugar, Chocolate Dipped Mint and Meyer Lemon.
Dewey’s Moravian baked goods have been a treasured holiday tradition since the bakery opened in downtown Winston-Salem in 1930. Moravian Cookies were even hand-selected by Oprah Winfrey and featured in O, The Oprah Magazine’s coveted “O List.” Dewey’s remains faithful to the origins of these time-honored classics, continuing to bake in the homemade tradition using original recipes and the finest ingredients.
