New details on the cave-in and rescue on Tuesday in Sylva. First responders got the call for help at about 11am Tuesday when two contractor employees became trapped while performing foundation work on a house on Savannah Drive near Mark Watson Park. As the workers dug down about six feet to seal an underground wall, the dirt began caving in. Both workers were buried up to their waists, according to Fire Chief Mike Beck. The Tuckaseigee Water and Sewer Authority brought in heavy equipment to help in the effort to free the men. The men were trapped for almost an hour before being freed.
