Daniel Sutton, who has been on trial for murder for the past week, has received a life sentence behind bars following the jury’s verdict on Wednesday afternoon, September 6th.
Upon hearing the verdict, Sutton expressed remorse and offered apologies to the victims.
The case revolved around the murder of local resident Jackie Thomason, who tragically lost his life four years ago when Daniel Sutton and another individual, Jeremy Solomon, confronted him at his residence over a truck title dispute. During the altercation, Sutton struck Thomason in the head with a stick, causing injuries that ultimately resulted in Thomason’s death several days later.
Jeremy Solomon also faces charges of first-degree murder, and both men have been incarcerated in the swain county jail without bond since the incident in may of 2019.
