The Jarrett House in Jackson County went on the auction block this week. The Jarrett House is one of Jackson County’s most iconic properties and it is on the national register of historic places. A firm called Iron Horse Auctions out of Rockingham is holding the auction through First Citizens Bank. The tax value of the property is set at just over a million dollars. The restaurant space next door will also go with the hotel. It has an added tax value of just over 520-thousand dollars. The hotel was built by William Allen Dills in 1884. Dills also founded the town of Dillsboro. Julie Donaldson, the director of the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce, says she’s hoping the buyer will restore the property and incorporate new amenities to offer guests while they’re on vacation.
