Western Carolina University Director of Athletics Randy Eaton announced on Monday that Kiley Hill has been named at the new women’s head basketball coach at WCU. Hill comes from his position as associate head coach at the University of Southern Mississippi and former head coach at Valdosta State. Hill has more than 25 years experience as a collegiate women’s basketball coach including 17 as head coach. Eaton said, “His level of experience and success is exactly what we need within our women’s basketball program.” He also praised Coach Hill’s focus of empowering the student athletes for life beyond the basketball court. In 16 years as head coach at Valdosta State he compiled a 279 to 177 record and was named Gulf South Conference East Division Coach Of The Decade and was selected twice as the Coach Of The Year.
As the Associate Head coach at Southern Mississippi he helped coach the teams to a 56 and 40 record including a 23 and 11 record in the 2016-2017 season and last year helped 10 players exceed their career highs in season points, and took the team to the second round of the Women’s Basketball Invitational postseason tournament. Hill will be working with eight returning players from last year’s WCU Women’s team including Southern Conference Sports Media Association Freshman Of The Year Jewel Smalls. Three slots are available for additional players to be added to the team.
