On the evening of August 8, 2024, deputies from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the vicinity of North River Road. The call came in at around 8 p.m.
Upon arrival, deputies located a vehicle occupied by two individuals. During the course of their investigation, approximately 7 grams of suspected fentanyl were discovered inside the vehicle. The dangerous opioid, often linked to overdoses and fatalities, has been the focus of increased law enforcement efforts in the region.
One of the occupants, identified as Jamie Dale Kent, was taken into custody and charged with multiple serious offenses, including: Trafficking in Opium and Heroin by Possession. Maintaining a Vehicle/Place for Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
The charges reflect the ongoing commitment of local authorities to combat the distribution and use of illegal drugs, particularly fentanyl, which has been responsible for a significant rise in overdose deaths nationwide.
The investigation is ongoing, and further details have yet to be released. The Sheriff’s Office continues to urge the community to report any suspicious activity, as public cooperation remains crucial in the fight against the drug epidemic.
Jamie Dale Kent is expected to appear in court later this month.
