Sturgill Simpson is excited to announce his partnership with nugs.net to release official live concert recordings from his extensive “Why Not? Tour,” currently underway. Fans can now stream or download Simpson’s concert recordings in both standard and high-resolution formats, allowing them to experience the raw energy of his performances as if they were front row at the show.
Exclusive Live Recordings Available
As part of this collaboration, five concert recordings from the tour’s first week are available now on the live music platform. Fans can expect nightly recordings to be available within 12 hours of each show. However, it’s important to note that the audio for the September 14th show at the Greek Theatre will not be available, and streaming availability for the Europe leg of the tour has yet to be confirmed.
Celebrating His Return
The “Why Not? Tour” marks Simpson’s return to the road for his first full tour in over four years, featuring his talented band: Kevin Black (bass), Robbie Crowell (keys), Laur Joamets (guitar), and Miles Miller (drums). Upcoming tour stops include major venues such as Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena, New York’s Forest Hills Stadium, and Washington, D.C.’s The Anthem, among others. Simpson is also set to headline the Austin City Limits Music Festival and will kick off the European leg of the tour in February.
New Album Passage Du Desir
This tour coincides with the release of Passage Du Desir, Simpson’s new studio album under his new stage name, Johnny Blue Skies. Released via High Top Mountain Records, the album has received critical acclaim and marks a new era for the artist. It was produced by Johnny Blue Skies and David Ferguson, recorded at both Clement House Recording Studio in Nashville and Abbey Road Studios in London.
Critics have lauded Passage Du Desir, calling it “an instant classic” and “a brilliant exploration of metamodern heartache.” The album’s eclectic sound, blending elements of outlaw country and Memphis soul, showcases Simpson’s range and artistry.
Reflecting on His Impact
Sturgill Simpson’s influence on country music continues to grow, with his 2014 album, Metamodern Sounds in Country Music, recently receiving a tenth anniversary reissue. This groundbreaking album changed the landscape of country music, making way for future outsider artists. Critics have reflected on its enduring legacy, with Rolling Stone stating it “continues to redefine what’s possible in Nashville.”
Since his debut, Simpson has released multiple critically acclaimed albums and garnered numerous accolades, including a Grammy Award for Best Country Album. Beyond music, he has also made his mark in film and television, appearing in notable projects like The Dead Don’t Die and Killers of the Flower Moon.
As Sturgill Simpson embarks on this exciting new chapter, fans can look forward to experiencing his live performances like never before, both in person and through the exclusive recordings available on nugs.net.
