WCU Board of Trustees appoints Jamie Raynor as vice chancellor of advancement

Jamie Raynor

Western Carolina University Board of Trustees appointed Jamie Raynor as its new vice chancellor of advancement during a special-called meeting today, July 20. Raynor, who served as the interim vice chancellor of advancement for the last two years secured the position after an extensive national search.  Her appointment is effective immediately.

“Jamie’s greatest strength is her ability to connect with donors and develop relationships,” said Chancellor Kelli Brown.  “She is a collaborator and team player.  She was an integral part of WCU’s success with the “Lead the Way” campaign that ended in April 2019. Her love and dedication for WCU has been apparent for six years.”

Raynor first came to work at the university as a director of development in 2015. Since that time, she has held positions with increasing responsibility as the assistant vice chancellor for development and alumni engagement and the interim vice chancellor for advancement. She has 16 years of experience in advancement at four institutions, providing her with a depth and breadth of alumni and development experiences. Raynor has a bachelor’s degree in English and Master of Education, both from the University of South Carolina-Aiken.

“Having the chance to lead the Division of Advancement with a team of outstanding professionals is humbling,” Raynor said after the appointment was made official. “I’m honored for this opportunity to move the University forward by engaging our community and region and securing vital philanthropic support for our deserving students and programs.”

As WCU’s vice chancellor for advancement, Raynor will be a member of Chancellor Brown’s Executive Council and support an array of issues facing the institution. Raynor also will serve as the senior development and alumni engagement officer and secretary of the WCU Foundation.

The Division of Advancement is comprised of three departments, including Advancement Services, Alumni Engagement and Development. Each department has a leader who reports directly to the vice chancellor.

“WCU is a special place to me,” Raynor said. “I’ve had the privilege of being adopted into this Catamount family, and to this day possess an overwhelming sense of pride for this university.”
