Cal Raleigh Promoted To Double A Arkansas

Cullowhee native and Smoky Mountain High School graduate Cal Raleigh got the call Monday to pack his gear and head to Arkansas and join the Travelers Double A baseball team who are members of the North Division of the Texas League. Raleigh was assigned to the Advanced A Mondesto Nuts team out of spring training and has been on the radar screen of General Manager Jerry Dipoto this season who stated about Raleigh,”The quality of his defense, his game calling, his leadership, and 22 homers is really notable.” In the last month with Mondesto Raleigh has a .333 batting average, 15 homers, four doubles, 36 RBI, 13 walks and 20 strikeouts. Also going to join the Arkansas Travelers is the Seattle Mariners hottest pitching prospect Logan Gilbert. This pitching and catching combination is a very bright spot in the Seattle Mariners farm system. Raleigh was the 90th pick in the 2018 draft after playing two seasons for Florida State and earning numerous ACC honors. After high school Raleigh played for the Haywood Post 47 American Legion baseball team. His jersey number was retired by the Western Division Of the North Carolina American Legion Baseball after leading the Post 47  team went to the state tournament.

The Travelers are the leaders of the North Texas League North Division by two games over Tulsa, by three over Springfield, and 4.5 over Northwest  Arkansas. The Travelers won the first half division title and commence a series on Tuesday night with the Midland Rough Riders.

Raleigh is the son of former WCU Catamounts and Tennessee Volunteers baseball head coach Todd Raleigh. He is the nephew of former Swain and Smoky Mountain High School head football coach and current county commissioner Boyce Deitz, brother to Randy Deitz who is Raleigh’s grandfather.
